EMP protector
Can anyone suggest a surge protector suitable for nuclear war scenario? I read it should have latency at most 2 nanoseconds, but what other characteristics to look for, if any?

Re: EMP protector
My understanding of EMP is that it is airborne not transferred by wire/cables etc.
I believe you need to disconnect your equipment from any power lines and antennas. Then place it in a solid metal box. Then after "the event" you can get your equipment out and use it if you can make your own power. |

EMP doesn't get much play in the media. You can bet your booty that critical military applications are hardened. |

I think the chances are very good that we are getting nuked during Hillary presidency, and EMP attack before nuclear strike is a standard procedure and makes perfect sense |
Re: EMP protector
Lead foil wrapping for electronics but that is inconvenient. IF you have an extra pc, gps, ham transceiver or marine radio it would do well to preserve it in a box wrapped in lead sheeting in a worse case scenario. At least then you may have something that survives. But who if the whole country gets it who are you going to listen or talk to? They will certainly shut down all of the internet except for the military bands.

Re: EMP protector
I'm more concerned about what a storm can throw at us so I bought a couple of Brickwall's back when they were on sale. When I bought them they were the only surge suppresors on the market that were built to military specifications:

Re: EMP protector
If it's unplugged you can keep it in ammo box. What about plugged electronics though? Will surge protector with good latency rate and max voltage help?

Re: EMP protector
Maybe it would be safe to run your electronics off the grid. If a guy wanted to just do that it may not require to much equipment. I know you can get a global air card so your laptop will work off the cell phones towers so that could be kept off the grid also.

I dunno, but I use isolation transformers on audio equipment. The AC comes in - goes through a torroidal transformer that removes most of the grunge - lots better than your basic surge protector. I use a couple of 1500 watt ones that weigh in at about 70 pounds each You can pick up powervars on e-bay cheap at times. Gotta watch it on the freight _grin_ dunno what level of protection you need for EMP though- If you get a 5KV isolation transformer - which is light industrial - it's gonna weigh about 200 lbs - Probably heavy enough to do the trick. I have heard that some people who work at plants, etc and scrounge stuff like that freebie when new equipment comes in. |
